What's on in Cockermouth?

Cockermouth is home to a number of regular and annual events. These include two Taste Cumbria events in September and December. The Cockermouth Show & LortonFest every August and the Loweswater Show in September. Plus Cockermouth Live music festival in July. 

Does Cockermouth hold family-friendly events?

Yes, all of Cockermouths’ annual events are family-friendly. Most events are free to attend, though rides and other attractions may charge admission. Cockermouth has 8 public carparks throughout the town and plenty of public toilets during major events.

Breast Cancer now Afternoon Tea

I will be holding a Afternoon Tea Event as part of the Nationwide Breast cancer now charity. Fresh baking, Tea or light drinks served on the lawn of Oakhurst House. Information table on self care. Fun quizzes to participate in and of course the usual tombola. 2-5pm 15th Aug. Please share a lift or get dropped off to save on parking or walk up to the centre. Donations on the day £5 plus. Quizzes £2 to have a go and tombola £1 a go.

Lloyds Tour of Britain Women 2026

Main Street, Cockermouth

Stage One of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women 2026 will start and finish here in Cockermouth, a gem of a Lakeland town. The opening stage will take riders on a challenging route through Western Cumbria before returning to Cockermouth for the finish, providing a spectacular backdrop to the start of Britain’s biggest women’s cycling race.

Tohi Harada (Guitar)

Tohi Harada is a Japanese guitarist studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London with a scholarship, and he has been awarded top prizes at many international competitions. See him play on our website. He is brilliant. In this concert Tohi plays music by Dowland, Couperin, Rameau, Handel and Bach among others. The concert is sponsored by the Countess of Munster Trust which supports young professional musicians

Cockermouth Volunteer Fair

Meera Maharaj and Dominic Degavino both undertook postgraduate studies in London, at the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, respectively. World’s Biggest Liar Returns

Jennings played a big part in the World’s Biggest Liar events, as a sponsor and supporter of the series. Over the years, the competition saw many winners with lies such as: “removing a snail shell in a snail race to make it more aerodynamic” (Glen Boylan) to “the lakes and mountains of the Cumbrian countryside being stolen from Essex. The competition’s most famous winner was comedian Sue Perkins won the competition in 2006, marking the first time in the events history, that a woman won the competition. Today, the re-established team at Jennings are bringing many elements of Jennings’ colourful history, and the return of this competition is part of that task, reviving a much loved and hilarious evening to be part of. We will also see the return of the World’s Biggest Liar celebratory beer, which will be available in both bottles and cask. As Buster, Jennings Head Brewer has done with many of the revived Jennings Ales, the World’s Biggest Liar beer will be coming from the old recipe books!

Fibonacci Quartet

The line-up is violin, viola, cello and piano. The programme features the Piano Quartet in C minor Op 60 by Johannes Brahms, the great 19th century composer. The Pirasti Trio formed in 1989 and performed throughout the UK, Europe and the USA until 2001. In 2021, after they were all living back in the UK, they reunited as a trio. Ferio Saxophone Quartet

As one of Europe’s leading saxophone quartets, the Ferio Saxophone Quartet consistently receives a highly enthusiastic reception from audiences and critics alike. Concert engagements have taken the ensemble to the leading festivals and concert halls across the UK, as well as on tour to New Zealand, France and Bermuda, and they can frequently be heard on BBC Radio 3 and other national and international broadcasters. Lara Melda (piano)

Lara Melda won the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2010 and is the superb pianist that this suggests. She has just recorded a CD of music by Chopin and you can hear samples of this on our website.
