About the award
The Cockermouth Chamber of Trade is proud to present a new initiative for 2026. We are looking for a young entrepreneur with a business idea which we can help to establish. The award is open to 16-25 year olds who live in Cockermouth (your home address must be within the CA13 postcode area).
The business idea must operate in Cockermouth. We are collecting submissions via the form below. We ask that you fill the form out to the best of your ability and that you give us comprehensive answers to the questions. The answers you provide will help us determine if we can consider your business plan for this years’ award. Judging will be conducted by a committee of Chamber of Trade members and you may be asked to attend an interview in person.
If you think you have an idea which could become a business we welcome your entry in the selection process. You might have a business plan which is in the retail or service industries. You may be looking at trading online or via a physical shop or office. We are open to considering any worthwhile business enterprise.
Our role as the Cockermouth Chamber of Trade is to promote businesses within our town. We encourage you to present your business idea below and look forward to finding a young entrepreneur who wants to turn their idea into a real business.
The prizes & the conditions
The winner of this years’ award will receive a range of business building prizes aimed at promoting and establishing a successful enterprise. These prizes will be provided by local Cockermouth business owners and the Chamber of Trade. These prizes will be available to the winner of the award and will be based on the requirements of the successful business plan. The prizes are awarded subject to the discretion of the Chamber of Trade and at a time which we determine to be beneficial to the success of the winners’ business plan. Subject to the requirements of the winning business plan, the prizes may include the following:
- A professionally built website
- A professional photographic session
- Graphic design of logo & brochure
- Press release & media guidance
- Paid social media advertising
- A professional accountant session
- Business & marketing guidance
