VE Day in Cockermouth Town

Cockermouth Town marking VE Day with gratitude and reflection.

Today as a town we honoured the courage, sacrifice and lasting legacy of the men and women who restored freedom to Europe 80 years ago this week. It has been fantastic to see how the whole town have marked the anniversary, from beautiful window displays, street bunting flying proud, to local events and a concert.

This afternoon, Cockermouth Chamber of Trade co-chairs Joe Murray and Brenda Warriner-Little had the privilege of seeing these displays first hand whilst judging for the town wide window competition.

The displays were a wash of red white and blue, and so creative. A big thank you to everyone who entered and played their part in making Cockermouth Town look so good, as ever! The results of the Chamber’s VE window competition are – 1st Place JB Banks, and Highly Commended were The New Bookshop & Age UK North Cumbria.
