Crafts@Kirkgate: Fused glass Christmas decoration taster session

Book your place on a fused glass Christmas decoration taster session with Roxanne Denny of RD Glass. Learn a new skill and have fun being creative with hands on instruction and the freedom to choose what you make. During the session you will use pre-cut pieces of glass, glass rods and crushed glass in a range of shapes and colours. You will design and produce your choice of up to three Christmas decorations, which will then be taken to the tutor’s studio to fire. Roxanne will be on hand to assist, offer tips and to teach you about how fused glass is made. All materials and use of equipment are included in the price. Your finished pieces can be collected in two weeks or posted to you for a charge of £5. We recommend having a look at fused glass images prior to the class to give you an idea of what to expect and some inspiration!

Spirit of Christmas – Late night shopping

Love Christmas shopping? Then save the date! As our gorgeous Spirit of Christmas late night shopping returns 5pm-7pm all around Cockermouth Town. The shop doorways will be lit by candles, the Christmas window displays will be sparkling, festive music playing on the streets, and there will be loads of tasty food and drink on offer at our pubs, cafes and restaurants. “Love your local high street this Christmas.” 

Cockermouth Harmonic Singers – Lux Eterna Concert

Advent Sunday marks the approach of Christmas bringing light into the world. On 30 November a special celebration of the Advent season will take place at a concert in Cockermouth. Cockermouth Harmonic Singers will perform music, all with the theme of Light (lux),by a number of composers, including, Lauridson, Makor, Tallis and Whitacre. The beauty of the music will reflect the significance of the season, as well as a chance to enjoy some calm before the demands of the festive season. The concert starts at 3pm on Advent Sunday, 30 November, and takes place at the United Reformed Church, Cockermouth. Ian Wright will conduct the choir and accompanying musicians. Suitable for all the family, tickets will cost £12, with accompanied u-16s free. Tickets are available from Billy Bowman’s music shop in Cockermouth, 01900 826708, or from choir members.

Crafts@Kirkgate: Christmas Wreath

Celebrate Cumbria’s winter season by making your very own sustainable Festive Wreath to dress your front door. Harriet from Cumberland Flower Farm will bring a lovely mix of cumbrian evergreen foliages, grasses and berries and guide you in crafting a compostable wreath using sustainable materials and techniques. Tuition, materials and tools and equipment will be supplied, but please wear old clothes or an apron and bring gardening gloves if you have them. No previous experience is necessary.
