Cockermouth Music Society
The Society exists to bring professional classical music to audiences in Cockermouth.
Cockermouth Music Society is a charity which brings classical music to Cockermouth and supports local music making.
Cockermouth Music Society is a registered charity with a membership of around 60. Full membership is open from July until October. Members are entitled to free access to our professional concerts as well as local concerts presented by school students and then our own members. Members can vote and stand for office at our Annual General Meeting.
We promote 7 professional live music concerts during our season which runs from September to March, once a month. The musicians are soloists or part of a small group, typically one to six players. Their acoustic instruments can be bowed, plucked, keyed, struck or blown. The music is known as Chamber Music because it was written not only for the concert hall but to be played among friends in a house. The genre is still being written and our audiences are keen to hear new pieces. We aim to bring a variety of performers during each season and attract mainly people from a radius of 40km around Keswick.
Concerts are on Tuesday evenings at 19:30 and have this season attracted an average attendance of 90. Non-members can buy tickets on our website, from Bowmans Music Shop and on the door.
We arrange occasional workshops by performers in local schools and rent out our Steinway piano to choirs and other musicians.
