Bassenthwaite Lake Station

Unique daytime cafe in a restored station with a full-size replica steam train

Previously derelict,, this unique cafe is in a restored station building and has seating on a full-size replica steam train used as the filmset in the 2017 Murder on the Orient Express film. With a level walk along the station platform, a wildlife meadow and bird hide, there is plenty to explore

Restored in 2020, this unique and special cafe opened in July 2021 and offers day-time dining from 9am until 5pm. Customers can choose from a delicious breakfast, drinks and cakes, lunches or our amazing (filling) afternoon teas or just pop in for an icecream or a brew!`. Some areas are available for private hire. Customers can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the former platform or a quiet sit in the bird hide overlooking the wildlife pond and wild flower meadow.
The menu is varied and freshly-made at the time of ordering using, wherever possible, local suppliers and ingredients.
Private hire bookings for smaller parties and celebrations may be possible on the train. Please call for further details.
With an emphasis on inclusivity and accessibility, this is a memorable experience for all ages.
